Something for Everyone Evaluating the Sport Horse Form and Function:
The 2016 CDS Symposium Presented by DressageClinic.com
By Nan Meek
CDS Symposiums have long been a highlight of the California dressage calendar, often starring world-famous trainers as presenters: Kyra Kyrklund, Debbie McDonald, Conrad Schumacher, and Christine Stuckelberger to name just a few.
This year’s Symposium takes a new approach – it stars the horse itself, “Evaluating the Sport Horse Form and Function,” presented by two renowned dressage professors who are esteemed trainers, judges, breeders and teachers: Kristi Wysocki and William Solyntjes.
This year’s format straddles two days, with options for attending either day or both. Saturday afternoon’s classroom lecture at the Embassy Suites Sacramento Riverfront Hotel lays the foundation for Sunday’s demonstration at Starr Vaughn Equestrian in Elk Grove, so attending both sessions is highly recommended.
You’ll spend all of Sunday watching live demonstrations with sport horses of all types, not just warmbloods. Kevin promises an equal opportunity lineup of various breeds and types that are seen in dressage arenas throughout the state, including Arabian, Andalusian, Halflinger, pony, jumper, Friesian/Thoroughbred cross, and a few warmbloods, too.
Sunday morning will be devoted to horses in hand, and Sunday afternoon to horses under saddle. All the information you absorbed in the classroom lecture will be put into practice, applied to the demo horses who are not the perfect sport horse but more like the horses we all ride and love.
